GM Helps Put Veterans to Work

GM recently announced plans to help eliminate umemployment among veterans.GM is contributing $250,000 to the U.S. Chamber of Commer and National Chamber Foundation's Hiring our Heroes program, a national grassroots efort to find jobs for returning veterans and their spouses.

Hiring Our Heroes has helped put over 9,500 veterans and spouses go back to work. Hiring Our Heroes helps host hiring fairs and also encourages businesses to commit to hiring veterans.

In addition to donations, GM is also recruiting qualified veterans to fill salaried and hourly job vacancies. Kenneth J Barret, GM chief diversity officer and a retired Navy captain said, "The Best way to thank the men and women who vollunteered to serve our country is with a good job when they return home".

Veterans bring discipline, a work ethic, and skills to employers uniquie to their minitary training, so hiring them isn't just the right thing to do, it's the smart thing to do," Barret also added.

Currently, GM is sponsoring 20 veterans' job fairs and it employs around 5,000 veterans and 45,000 more who are retirees.
